Mike Sheffield, PhD

Consulting Psychologist

Mike is a clinical psychologist who has worked for the past ten years doing psychological assessment with teens and young adults in wilderness and residential treatment programs. He has also worked in private practice and consulted with treatment programs on issues such as psychological assessment, clinical intervention, and program development. Prior to that he worked for five years at a community mental health center in Salt Lake City, where he was involved with program development and outcome evaluation as well as psychological testing and therapy. He worked with individuals with severe mental health issues. He also helped develop and run innovative multi-family group programs for parents and children from high-risk families with multiple problems such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness. In recent years his private practice has focused on his interest in exploring the unfolding of the self and life purpose through individual coaching and experiential workshops which integrate depth psychology, nature-based practices, and creative writing or other artistic expression.

In his free time Mike enjoys pursuing his creative interests as a singer-songwriter, pianist, poet, nonfiction writer, and photographer. A wilderness lover, he enjoys outdoor activities such as trail running, hiking, camping, and backpacking, especially exploring the redrock country of southern Utah.
